melville remodelled garden

Our palette for the Melville garden was inclusive of native plants, edible plants and sculptural exotic species and is furnished with a selection of warm natural materials such as stone, weathered metal, aged wood as well as recycled objects and hand-made textures.

The main sustainable feature in this garden is the selection of low water usage natives and the use subsurface irrigation covered by wood chips and granite chips allowing no evaporation of water to occur. Another sustainable aspect to the garden is the inclusion of edible garden beds both at the front and rear of the garden which provide a generous amount of edible produce throughout the year as well as a citrus grove on the southern boundary.

The materials used in this garden include circular concrete forms punctuated with smaller circular pavers to create an interesting visual effect.

The main features of this garden are two large privacy screens.

In the first screen the major material components are the natural suspended river stone pebbles, jarrah sleepers and the weathered metal screens. Nestled underneath this screen is a small water bowl which is fed by an organic ceramic form.

The second feature includes a series of three suspended Cor-ten screens of silhouetted grasses with each screen being suspended by weathered steel chains.
